THE SEVEN WONDERS

While you are away, I am rediscovering my kitchen...

image here

This is all-purpose flour.
Bread, which is made out of flour, is a staple food for many cultures.

image here

Flour is highly explosive.
Flour explosions have caused many fatalities in mills around the world...

I am in my kitchen, and you are in Niagara Falls...
image here
The flour might explode.
Do I have to take it back?
image here
image here

Pepper is a fruit for seasoning and spice.
It is also believed to be a cure for heart disease.

image here

It is the world's most traded spice...

You said "no" to me once, but should we try again?

Do you want to ask, or should I?

Love is the world's most traded spice...
image here
Pass the pepper, please.
image here
image here

The third wonder is sugar.

image here

Sugar is for sweetening. It also adds texture to food.

image here

Some scientists claim that consumption of sugar
has effects similar to heroin addiction.

image here

Once you start, you can not stop.

I wonder if I can stop...

As you travel west, I am thinking of sugar.
image here
I want to share it, but there's no one here...
image here
image here
image here
image here

This is salt.

image here

Salt is essential for human life.
The taste of salt (saltiness) is one of the basic human tastes.

image here

The severe depletion of salt in the human body is called "Hyponatremia."
Symptoms include lethargy, loss of appetite, and heart failure...

I just checked the kitchen...

It looks like we're out of salt.

It has been nine days since you left, and I feel empty inside...
image here
A man's got to have something in his insides.
image here
Or he's empty, right?
image here
image here

Olive oil is often adulterated,
and a significant percentage sold as "extra virgin" is inferior in quality.

image here

The olive tree was first domesticated on the island of Crete in 2,500 BC.

image here

Today's species descend from multiple wild populations,
but the history of their domestication is not yet understood.

image here

Are we domesticated? Or did I dream it?

image here

I am not certain on the history of our domestication.

NOTE TO SELF: I think there's something wrong with the olive oil.
image here
Should I throw it out?
image here
image here
image here
image here

The sixth wonder is vinegar...

image here

It is used mostly for cooking,
but white vinegar is also used domestically as a general household cleaner.

image here

A good housekeeper always has vinegar available for spot cleaning.

image here

What is that I see?

image here

I see some spots.

Two people, two directions, two homes...
image here
Today, I will clean the house with vinegar.
I will dilute with water to avoid damaging the objects being cleaned.
image here
image here

The last is thyme...

image here

Thyme is an herb commonly used in cooking.
It can also be used as an antibiotic and antiseptic.

image here

In the Middle Ages, thyme was placed on coffins during funerals.
It was supposed to guarantee safe passage into the afterlife.

image here

I checked, and we have plenty of thyme left in the kitchen.

image here

After all these days, it is still green and fresh...

image here

Did you purposely leave it behind?

image here

Are you offering us safe passage?

It has been sixteen days since you left me in this vast, underground world.

I am alone in my kitchen...
image here
I wonder if you are coming back.
