About Me

Elizabeth Licata

Editor, writer, and gardener Elizabeth Licata has been working as a professional journalist for over 20 years. Her writing on the arts has been published in the Village Voice, the Buffalo News, Art in America, Art & Antiques, and many other publications, including a stint as Art Editor of Buffalo Art Voice from 1996-1999. Since becoming editor of Spree in 1999, Licata has overseen a complete makeover of the magazine from a literary publication to an award-winning city/regional publication.

Licata was also a curator at the Castellani Art Museum from 1991-1999, where she organized several national touring exhibitions and co-edited two book, including In Company: Robert Creeley’s Collaborations and Consider the Alternatives: Hallwalls Contemporary Arts Center 1975-1995.

Licata is past Board President of Squeaky Wheel/Buffalo Media Resources and a member of the Garden Walk Buffalo steering committee; she was Board President of the Allentown Association from 2002-2004, and is a current board member. She is a 2005 nominee for the YWCA Leadership Award and a 2002 winner of the Zonta “Yellow Rose” for leadership. In 2008, Licata received an award from the Arts Council of Bufalo and Erie County for overseeing Spree’s coverage of the arts and was named 2009’s “Print Journalist of the Year by Buffalo’s Medaille College. Licata regularly volunteers for a number of WNY community organizations.
